    Course Outline/Details

The Solaris 8 OS System Administrator II course bundle provides students with the skills necessary to administer Sun systems running Solaris 8 in a network environment. Students will be taught how to maintain Sun systems, configure and troubleshoot the Network File System (NFS), and configure the Network Information Service (NIS) environment.

  • Install the Solaris Operating System on a stand-alone system including update patches
  • Understand and perform booting and shutdown procedures and options
  • Log into a UNIX system and change passwords, add users, and set up file permissions Make directories, setup partitions, and manage files

  • Set up event logging
  • Redirect all core dumps to a single core dump directory
  • Administer disks using a volume management utility

  • Use the automounter
  • Set up and configure CasheFS file systems
  • Describe the various naming services: DNS, NIS, and NIS+
  • Configure and administer the NIS environment
